The story:
Last week I went to my local mechanic Mike to pay my bill for the services he did on my car. While there he asked me if I remembered when I had brought the car in. Two things should strike you at this point:
- I had yet to pay.
- I already had my car back (and for a decent amount of time at that).
You see Mike didn't want to charge me until he knew the work he'd done successfully fixed the problem. In fact, he wanted me to drive 500 miles to ensure the problem was gone before I paid!
So, in addition to paying my bill I told him I would bake him a pie. I wanted to do something a little extra for a guy who did a lot extra for me (and my car).
When is the last time you did something a "little extra"? When is the last time someone did a something a "little extra" for you? When is the last time your payment wasn't in dollars but in donuts? Or a cup of coffee? Or a pie?
Mike is a small business owner, and his shop is a small shop but his professionalism and personal dedication to his work make him outshine even the biggest of garages, and I know he will appreciate his pie (which I will deliver bright and early tomorrow morning). And the truth is, knowing he will appreciate it makes it all the more worth doing!
So think about someone you appreciate this week and do something a little extra for them. After all, what's a world without pie?
Oh how delightful! So THAT'S who you were making the pie for. Reciprocity. Pass it on! :)
